Devil (2010)
Five strangers trapped in an elevator realize that one of them is the Devil in this thriller from director John E. Dowdle (Quarantine) and screenwriter Brian Nelson (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night). Cronos: Criterion Edition (1993)

Tales From the Darkside: Complete Series
This 30-minute horror/fantasy anthology series follows in the vein of The Twilight Zone. Each week presents another standalone story of horror fantasy, and/or science fiction. Some episodes are gruesome, a few are of a lighter comedic style. Like many such shows, Tales… adapted the work of famous genre authors of the period such as Harlan Ellison, Stephen King, and Clive Barker. Many episodes also featured veteran actors of the 40′s and 50′s that saw very little work in their later years.

Growth (2009)
Twenty years after a mysterious outbreak claimed the lives of everyone at the Advanced Parasitic Development at the Cuttyhunk Island Research Facility as well as most of the civilian population of the island, a woman who managed to narrowly escape infection discovers that the bug is much more resilient than scientists previously it credit for when she returns home to sell her parent’s abandoned property. Now the parasites have evolved, and they can slip into any human orifice impossibly fast. If they manage to find a human host to carry them out of the danger zone, there’s no telling how long it would take before the infection starts to spread all across the planet.

Tormented (2009)
An emotionally tortured teenager returns from the grave and promptly makes life hell for those who ostracized him, in this jet-black horror comedy with echoes of Carrie At the center of the British secondary school in question is Justine (Tuppence Middleton), a pampered, elitist rich bitch. Following the suicide of a bullied classmate – overweight, asthmatic Darren Mullett (Calvin Dean) – Justine tries to wheedle her way into the “in crowd,” whose members are every bit as snotty and obnoxious as she is, and strikes up a torrid affair with Alexis (Dimitri Leonidas), the most popular boy in class. For a time, everyone assumes that Darren is dead and gone; then his corpse begins turning up and gruesomely picking off the bullies, one by one.

Dead Eyes Open (2008)
A group of twenty-somethings set out across Germany in a cramped van and find themselves stranded in the middle of nowhere after running out of gas. Upon encountering a murderous maniac the group flees to a secluded farm house, only to discover that their nightmare has just begun.

Red Riding Trilogy (2009)
The first installment of the Red Riding Trilogy, 1974 follows rookie newspaper crime correspondent Eddie Dunford (Andrew Garfield) as he encounters police corruption while investigating a chilling series of child abductions in Yorkshire, England. Adapted from British author David Pease’s best-selling series of crime novels centering on the mystery of the Yorkshire Ripper, 1974 was quickly followed by 1980 (directed by James Marsh), and 1983 (directed by Anand Tucker).

Girls on the Road (1973)
Thomas J. Schmidt directed this little-known exploitation film getting a second life on video thanks to a double bill re-release with Werewolves on Wheels as part of the “Golden Age of Leather” series from Anchor Bay. After an unusual credit sequence featuring busty cult starlet Uschi Digart, the film follows the story of two girls (Kathleen Cody and The Fifth Floor’s Diane Hull) on their way to a hippie encounter session run by Ralph Waite (The Waltons). They pick up a crazed Vietnam veteran (Michael Ontkean from Twin Peaks) who has grainy flashbacks in both black & white and distorted color, aside from having a bipolar mood disorder. He might just be the serial killer who is murdering hippies in Waite’s peaceful village by the ocean, and the average viewer will figure out the answer in less than ten minutes. Familiar faces in this rather dull Fanfare International drive-in dud include Charles Picerni, Ruth Warshawsky, and Paul Sorenson. Schmidt, who had been working in films since the mid-’60s, died in 1975 with this his only credited feature as director.

Don’t Look Up (2008)
Director Fruit Chan (Dumplings) takes the helm for this remake of Ringu director Hideo Nakata’s 1996 shocker about a film crew that unleashes a malevolent supernatural force after discovering footage of a woman’s murder. As the production gets underway in Transylvania, director Marcus Reid gradually realizes that his set is cursed, and begins digging to get to the bottom of the bloody mystery. I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle (1989)
Bad taste slasher-movies never had it so good. In this horror/comedy movie, the film’s hero purchases an antique motorcycle. Somehow, the bike gets a taste for blood, and behaves in every respect just like a traditional vampire (shunning crucifixes, etc.). It also has a taste for human and animal flesh, and is given to dismembering its victims.

The Burnt House (2009)
A young couple seeking a fresh start following the death of their infant son finds old secrets starting to resurface and the horrors of the past threatening to repeat themselves after relocating to a remote house in the country.

Atom Age Vampires (1961)
A less-stylish variant on Franju’s classic Les Yeux Sans Visage, this low-budget Italian production borrows heavily from that film’s plot to tell the tale of a scientist who employs a radical new procedure to restore the beauty of a young hoochie-koochie dancer disfigured in a car accident. All goes well after the bandages come off… but after all, this is a horror film, and it’s only a matter of time before the young lass begins transforming into a monster — which, despite the title, is not really a vampire, but more like something resembling an overcooked pizza roll with eyes.

Atomic Brain (1964)
This weird, morbid little sci-fi thriller stars Marjorie Eaton as a filthy-rich but decrepit old widow who has devoted much of her wealth to funding the dubious (to say the least) scientific research of Frank Gerstle, who has constructed a mad lab in the widow’s basement in order to perfect a technique in which an infusion of atomic energy (or something) will enable him to transfer the widow’s brain into a young and sexy physique.

Neighbor (2009)
A psychotic girl (America Olivo) turns an upscale neighborhood into a suburban slaughterhouse by breaking into random homes and torturing anyone unfortunate enough to be around when she shows up.

The Uninvited (2009)
This offbeat supernatural thriller concerns a young woman (Marguerite Moreau) with a clinical history of severe agoraphobia, relieved via close physical proximity to walls. For years she has been healthy, but the mental illness returns with a vengeance when spirits turn up in her remotely-situated house and begin to ravage her over the course of one long and grueling night.

Ray Bradbury’s Chrysalis (2008)
A group of scientists conducting underground flora research in the wake of World War III encounter a disturbing development in this sci-fi drama based on a story by celebrated author Ray Bradbury. One of the scientists is experiencing a bizarre physical transformation. Could his mutation signal a new era in human evolution, or is it a harbinger that mankind’s reign on planet Earth has finally come to an end.

Beyond the Darkness (1979)
Joe D’Amato, notorious director of numerous Euro-porn epics, manages to exploit even more perverse theme material in this necrophiliac love story about a disturbed young taxidermist so bereaved over the loss of his fiancee that he exhumes and preserves her corpse to keep him company. When the stuffed cadaver no longer offers erotic satisfaction, he sets out with the help of his spooky housekeeper to find a new bride, murdering any prospects who don’t measure up to his twisted standards — or sometimes just for the fun of it — and dissecting them in his convenient in-home mortuary. As grotesque and graphic as this film may be, it is made all the more grim by its straightforward dramatic presentation (as if this were no more than a slightly off-kilter romantic tragedy), with atmospheric photography and a moody score by Goblin.

For generations of Washingtonians, the name Dick Dyszel will forever be synonymous with three names: Bozo the Clown, Captain 20, and Count Gore De Vol. Through the 1970s and ’80s, Dyszel’s colorful television characters entertained adults and children alike.

SARS (2009)
The ability to distinguish living people from walking corpses becomes nearly impossible when the SARS virus turns the majority of the world population into zombies, and only 1000 survivors remain. In 2009 the virus made the leap from insects to humans, sealing the fate of the human race. Six years later the world as we know it has ended, and a dark new age has dawned. The numbers of the human race dwindling to a dangerous low, the few uninfected now struggle to find a place to start a new life, away from the infected ghouls that stalk them relentlessly.

SARS: The Dead Plague (2009)
A fictional video diary detailing the devastation of the SARS epidemic, and the media frenzy as the global population plummets. “Actual” video camera footage of infected citizens coming together to suffer and die is intercut with chilling news footage documenting the mass hysteria on every continent. After succumbing to the deadly virus, the recently deceased return as flesh-eating zombies hell-bent on spreading the bug and devouring every last living creature on the planet.

The Daisy Chain (2008)
Struggling to recover from the death of their infant daughter, the Conroys — Martha (Samantha Morton) and Tomas (Steven Mackintosh) — move to rural Ireland and soon find themselves drawn to one of the town’s residents: an autistic orphan named Daisy (Mhairi Anderson). When a string of strange events connected to Daisy starts to occur, however, the couple begins wondering whether she’s a victim of superstitions or a dangerous changeling.

Creature of Darkness (2009)

Infection (2009)
Sixty years after the quaint town of Springville fell prey to a mysterious alien invasion, one of the few survivors relays the details if the attack to a journalist who specializes in conspiracy theories. Immediately after a meteor lights up the sky over Springville, it comes plummeting to earth at the edge of town. Before long, the townspeople are exhibiting some particularly bizarre behavior.

The Greatest American Snuff Film (2010)
A director’s cut of his notorious 2003 shocker The Great American Snuff Film, this version of Sean Tretta’s grim feature debut includes new footage expanding on the story of fictional serial killer William Allen Grone. In 1995, Grone rolled tape as he and an accomplice tortured and murdered two young girls. Now, “actual” footage of that horrifying crime has surfaced. In this film, we witness the fury of Grone’s madness firsthand, and hear in his own words what drove him to commit such heinous acts of depravity and murder. “Real” trial footage of Grone in court reveals just how the judge and jury responded upon hearing the grisly details of his crimes.

The Collector (2009)
Desperate to be free of his financial debt to his ex-wife, Arkin (Josh Stewart) breaks into his employer’s house to snag a jewel he knows will buy him independence. Too bad for him, someone else has gotten there first in this Marcus Dunston-helmed horror fest. Now, Arkin just wants to survive the night when he finds the house’s residents tied up, the house rigged with deadly traps and a masked madman engaged in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

Dolan’s Cadillac (2009)
Robinson’s (Wes Bentley) life assumes a new purpose when his wife — a witness to an execution-style slaying in the desert — is murdered by a Las Vegas mobster (Christian Slater), and the mild-mannered teacher vows to avenge her death. To overcome his wily adversary — and the thug’s heavily armored Cadillac — Robinson devises an ingenious revenge plan that doesn’t rely on raw firepower in this thriller based on a short story by Stephen King.

High Plains Invaders (2009)
In the early 20th century, aliens of the giant metallic insect variety invade a remote Western mining town in a mission to find enough uranium to fuel their spaceship. Retired outlaw Sam Danville (James Marsters) leads a motley band against the menace. For the human survivors, the mystery of what these nightmarish invaders really are — and what exactly they want — is just the beginning of their problems.

Tony (2010)
Solitary Tony (Peter Ferdinando) lives on the line of society and of sanity: Mostly he’s home alone, cultivating a taste for 1980s action flicks, and when social interaction arises, murder is his solution to an awkward moment. Director Gerard Johnson’s gruesome character study observes the inscrutable figure as he goes about the business of being maladjusted, misreading the world around him while remaining a mystery even perhaps to himself.

I Sell the Dead (2008)
In this winner of the Slamdance Film Festival Best Cinematography Award, an 19th-century grave robber facing the guillotine confesses his sins to a priest, revealing a life filled with supernatural high jinks. Directed by Glenn McQuaid, the macabre comedy stars Dominic Monaghan as the doomed digger and Ron Perlman as the cleric, and the supporting cast includes Larry Fessenden as the robber’s ghoulish cohort.

Bigfoot (2006)
Dishonorably discharged army vet Jack Sullivan (Todd Cox) returns home to the marshlands of northeastern Ohio, where the series of livestock mutilations and murders plaguing his old buddy, Sheriff Bob Perkins (Bob Gray), might be the work of a bloodthirsty Sasquatch. Jack is the first one to spot the Bigfoot and name it as a suspect, and it takes a while to convince the folks in town that he hasn’t gone completely nuts in this horror thriller.

Girly (1970)
Girly (Vanessa Howard), a fetching but evil-minded schoolgirl, shares a dark hobby with her oddball household: she lures unsuspecting men to their mansion on the outskirts of London, then engages them in “games” that inevitably end in their deaths. The horrific family project runs smoothly until Girly brings home a new friend (Michael Bryant) who’s operating under his own set of rules. Soon, he turns the entire household upside-down.

Clive Barker’s Dread (2009)
Assisted by two naïve classmates, duplicitous Quaid (Shaun Evans) conducts a devious research project examining students’ innermost fears. Once armed with data, Quaid methodically torments his hapless subjects, taking full advantage of their weaknesses. Adapted from a short story by Clive Barker, writer-director Anthony DiBlasi’s horror movie offers a potent mixture of heart-pounding thrills and extreme violence. Jackson Rathbone co-stars.

The Final (2010)

Possession (2007)
An adaptation of the 2002 Korean film Addicted, this thriller stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as a young woman whose husband and brother-in-law each fall into comas. When the brother-in-law comes back to consciousness first, he acts as if he is her husband, making her more and more uncomfortable. Soon she begins to suspect that unnatural forces are working against her.

Tales from the Dead (2008)
Pay a visit to the darkest corners of the human soul with this terrifying horror anthology. The first tale follows a newly-reunited family as they uncover a dark secret about their happy home. The shocks keep coming when an underworld accountant runs into an unexpected problem while attempting to set his books straight, and later a materialistic businessman discovers that time is the only thing he’s running short on. The anthology winds to a close when an unrepentant black widow encounters a pretty young girl on a lonely country road.

The film had its U.S. premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

The Box (2009)
Screen siren Cameron Diaz and former X-Man James Marsden star in the supernatural horror picture The Box (2008), directed by Donnie Darko cult fave Richard Kelly. The film’s premise involves a strange and ominous box granted to a young couple by a mysterious stranger (Frank Langella). They are informed that pressing various buttons on the box will grant them riches while killing a person unknown to them in the process.

Colour From The Dark (2008)
When poor Italian farmer Pietro (Michael Segal) and his troubled young sister-in-law, Alice (Marysia Kay), awaken a strange force at the bottom of their well, an otherworldly color creeps through the landscape and — at first — brings the family good luck. But soon the sinister color plunges the farmer and his clan into a terrible form of madness. Ivan Zuccon directs this film based on a story by pioneering horror-fantasy writer H.P. Lovecraft.

Edgar Allan Poe’s The Pit and the Pendulum (2009)
Edgar Allan Poe’s riveting tale of horror grips the screen again as the mysterious Dr. JB Divay (Lorielle New) takes seven college students to a creepy former mental asylum to prove her theory that the pain threshold can be controlled with hypnotherapy. The fun and games turn serious as the students begin to die and others are compelled to engage in unusual sexual pairings. David DeCoteau directs this homoerotic take on the classic tale of terror.

The Caretaker (2008)
Topher (Andrew St. John), Ricky (Diego J. Torres) and Snail (James Immekus) plan to surprise their homecoming dates with a trip to an isolated orchard, the supposed home of a killer known as the Caretaker. Since it’s also Halloween, there’s sure to be a few tricks in store for the ladies. This teen slasher flick co-stars Jennifer Tilly as an inappropriately amorous teacher and Judd Nelson as an overprotective dad.

Open Graves (2009)

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009)
It’s back: The flesh-eating virus that decimated a cabin full of coeds is on the loose again. This time around, a high school prom is ground zero for the epidemic in this horror sequel directed by Ti West. Thanks to a local stream being contaminated during the first outbreak, the bottled water being distributed at the high school dance is causing the unwitting students to break out in ghastly blisters and sores.

She’s Crushed (2009)
The morning after is acutely uncomfortable for Ray (Henrik Norlén), who engages in a one-night stand with innocent-looking Tara (Natalie Dickinson) and then tries to move on. Tara doesn’t see things his way, and she takes lethal measures to keep the passion alive. In this horror-thriller directed by Patrick Johnson, tortured soul becomes torturing avenger as Tara sets about obliterating from Ray’s life anyone who might compete for his attention.

As disturbing as real life gets, this low-budget horror thriller brings a gritty, you-are-there quality to the ghastly proceedings while showing a flesh-and-blood monster and his accomplices in brutal action.

Scream (1983)
Not to be confused with another Scream — that of a jubilant Wes Craven when he went to the bank in 1993 with the release of his popular horror film — this much weaker Scream was never heard at the box office. Like in many a similar film, a most thick-headed group of dullards go hiking for the weekend, this time in a remote Western ghost town. Once there, they end up joining the ghosts, one by one. As they sit waiting for the next victim to be bumped off, a horseback-riding stranger comes into town. He entertains them with a story of his seafaring days nearly a half-century earlier and then rides off — but not for long. Apparently that was the intermission.

Art of the Devil 3 (2008)
A black magician attempts to offset the toll that dark power has taken on his body by forcibly removing the power of a dark deity from the bodies of other humans who have absorbed it in this sequel to the hit Thai horror film Long Khong (aka Art of the Devil 2).

Hellhounds (2009)
Director Rick Schroder tries his hand at horror with this nightmarish shocker about an ancient Greek warrior attempting to rescue his wife’s soul from the underworld while fending off the hounds of hell. His bride Demetria (Amanda Brooks) poisoned on their wedding day by a jealous rival, crestfallen Kleitos (Scott Elrod) rallies the troops and storms the underworld, where Hades has already laid claim to Demetria’s soul. The deeper Kleitos and his warriors venture into the underworld, the greater the danger of falling victim to Hades’ snarling pack of vicious hellhounds, who are quickly closing in from all sides.

I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle (1989)
Bad taste slasher-movies never had it so good. In this horror/comedy movie, the film’s hero purchases an antique motorcycle. Somehow, the bike gets a taste for blood, and behaves in every respect just like a traditional vampire (shunning crucifixes, etc.). It also has a taste for human and animal flesh, and is given to dismembering its victims.

A seemingly innocuous pastime involving fun-loving collegians and prank phone calls turns into a lethal cat-and-mouse game in this blood-drenched fright fest starring Rutger Hauer and Brian Hooks. While vacationing at a secluded mansion after finals, a group of university students dials random telephone numbers and tries to unnerve the person on the other end. But their fun is short-circuited when one of them unwittingly connects with a slasher.

The Stepfather (2009)
Mom’s (Sela Ward) new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh), isn’t quite right and Michael knows it. A series of mysterious events leads the teen to suspect that David might in fact be a dangerous serial killer known for preying on families. Even amidst the bloodshed, these randy co-eds find time for some serious carnal activity in this gay-themed horror thriller from director David DeCoteau, who also helmed The Brotherhood I-IV.

Night of the Flesheaters (2008)
The cheating wife of a powerful crime boss and her handsome archeologist hitman lover battle an ancient evil in a cursed forest populated by demonic Native American zombies. With the vengeful kingpin in hot pursuit, the desperate couple finds their car destroyed by the Stone Man, an indestructible force with a hunger for human flesh. But surviving on foot won’t be easy, because in this forest every step you take could be your last.

Satan’s Wife (1977)
The Devil’s daughters find their fates conflicting in this satanic shocker from Italy. The Prince of Darkness seduces four gorgeous women, spreading his seed so that his scourge may take human form. Jess encounters the first of many bad omens when her car kills a seagull near the local harbor. Later that night, her yacht hits a storm, forcing her and her friends to board a mysterious deserted ship. The clock on the ship has stopped — and so has any sense of safety. Circle of Eight (2009)

Pontypool (2008)
Bruce McDonald, critically acclaimed director of The Tracey Fragments, teams with author Tony Burgess to adapt Burgess’ own novel about a small town in the grip of a mysterious frenzy. It may be Valentine’s Day, but for caustic radio personality Grant Mazzy (Stephen McHattie) that’s just another reason to be miserable. Mazzy used to be a certified radio superstar, but working in Pontypool is a far shot from working in the big city. Today, however, as Mazzy prepares for his regular routine of reading the weather, updating school closings, and pleading his case for a little on-air controversy to producer Sydney Bryer (Lisa Houle), the appearance of an unexpected figure signals the beginning of a disturbing phenomenon in the small town of Pontypool.

Madness (2009)
Four teens fight for their lives when they’re attacked by a group of crazed killers during a drive through the countryside. Cheerleaders Tara and Jenna were on their way to a competition when they crossed paths with Chad and Oliver, whose car had just broken down near a remote gas station. Sympathetic, the two girls offer the stranded strangers a lift. Little did the unsuspecting teens realize that they were about to become the prey in a sadistic game of death. After their car is run off the road, the four teens are locked away and systematically slaughtered. Realizing that their time is quickly running out, the remaining teens resolve to fight back against their captors, and do everything in their power to stay alive.

Alone in the Dark II (2008)
When a 100-year-old witch (Allison Lange) hatches a horrid plot to sacrifice a young girl with a mystical dagger, a team of witch hunters led by Edward Carnby (Rick Yune) set out to stop the killing and retrieve the terrible blade. But soon they discover that anyone who touches the knife falls under the power of the witch’s vengeful bloodlust. Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer direct this horror film that co-stars Lance Henriksen.

Pandorum (2009)
Upon rousing themselves from hyper-sleep, Payton (Dennis Quaid) and Bower (Ben Foster), a pair of crewmen assigned to work on a spacecraft, discover startling gaps in their collective memory — including who they are and what, exactly, their mission was in the first place. The plot thickens when they realize they’re not the only ones on board the ship. Cam Gigandet co-stars in this gripping sci-fi thriller.

Years later, an abducted war hero (Dominic Purcell) breaks free from the zombie family’s clutches, rounds up his brother (Henry Cavill) and returns to the wilderness for payback. Joel Schumacher directs this supernatural horror flick.

Halloween II (2009)
After Michael Myers’s (Tyler Mane) horrific Halloween night rampage in Haddonfield, the townspeople try to recover — but the nightmare isn’t over in Rob Zombie’s bloody sequel to his reimagining of the original Halloween horror flick. Malcolm McDowell reprises his role as Dr. Sam Loomis, and Scout Taylor-Compton returns as Myers’s sister, Laurie Strode. Brad Dourif, Danielle Harris and Bill Moseley co-star.

Hunchback of the Morgue (1973)
In this gory spine-chiller from Spain, dim-witted hunchback morgue attendant Gotho (Paul Naschy) makes a deal with mad scientist Dr. Orla (Alberto Dalbes): Gotho will provide fresh body parts to feed Orla’s horrific live creation, and the doctor will revive the woman Gotho loves. Gotho has hidden the corpse of Ilse (Maria Elena Arpon) in a dank crypt after brutally attacking the medical students preparing to dissect her body.

The Final Destination (2009)
